Ways To Make A Planned Gift

What is the Samaritan Legacy Circle?

Samaritan Counseling Center has been blessed with a generous community and family of supporters. Many of these supporters now desire to sustain the mission of Samaritan well into the future. The Samaritan Legacy Circle is a way for Samaritan to honor those generous people who have established planned gifts. You, too, can join the Samaritan Legacy Circle!

Any planned gift may be made in the name of anyone you wish to honor or memorialize.

Opportunities to Make a Legacy Gift

Gifts by Bequest

We hope you will consider including a gift to Samaritan Counseling Center in your Will or Living Trust. A bequest may be included in a new Will or added to an existing Will through a simple codicil. This type of gift can be a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or Samaritan Counseling Center can be named as a part of the remainder of your estate after all other specific bequests are fulfilled.

Beneficiary Designation – Life Insurance

Many assets will be transferred to your intended beneficiaries through your Will. However, other assets, such as life insurance, are not controlled by the terms of your Will. There are several ways to give life insurance. While there are many different kinds of life insurance, the principle of giving remains the same – a relatively small present gift will ultimately provide a much larger gift in the future. You may purchase or transfer a life insurance policy to Samaritan Counseling Center as owner and sole beneficiary or you may simply designate Samaritan Counseling Center as the beneficiary of a policy.

Beneficiary Designation – IRA or 401(k)

If you have a traditional IRA or participate in an employer-sponsored plan such as a 401(k) plan, you are generally required to designate a beneficiary or beneficiaries that will receive the remaining funds after you die. However, your choice of beneficiary may have an impact on your income tax or estate tax. Naming a not-for-profit such as Samaritan as a beneficiary may have tax implications for any noncharitable beneficiaries. It is best to consult your financial advisor if you are considering this option.

Support Your Legacy Giving with Your Donor-Advised Fund

You can incorporate your donor-advised fund into your estate planning by making a bequest in your Will to the donor-advised fund sponsor or by making the sponsor a beneficiary of a retirement plan, life insurance policy or charitable trust. By leaving instructions with the donor-advised fund sponsor, you can support multiple charitable organizations with one bequest.
