Donor Spotlight: Cathy Gelatka

When Cathy Gelatka attended her first Silent Samaritan Luncheon 20 years ago, she couldn’t have imagined how impactful the experience would be. Invited as a guest by her close friend, Linda Peacock, Cathy soon saw the mission of women helping women come to life. For the first few years, she would take a day off to attend the luncheon – time always well spent! Then after retiring, she had the flexibility and bandwidth to become more involved with both the Silent Samaritans and the Development Committee. And for the last two years, Cathy has had the privilege of emceeing the luncheon.

The Samaritan Center’s mission is near and dear to Cathy’s heart for many reasons. Having lived through her own mental health challenges, being able to support an organization whose mission is so aligned with her personal values gives her the chance to pay it forward.

“I am a strong proponent for mental health and ensuring that resources are available to everyone.”

“It’s crucial for people to be aware of their mental health – and if they have issues, to seek help,” she continues. As Samaritan Center experiences new growth and expanded accessibility, supporting them with her time and talents allows her to be part of their legacy to foster hope and healing in Lancaster County. Cathy is also a monthly donor and looks forward to continuing to support the Center in this capacity for many years to come.

Outside of her volunteerism for the Samaritan Center, Cathy enjoys gardening and traveling with her husband, having recently returned from a trip to the Bahamas. She is also active with other organizations in Lancaster County, particularly her hometown of Lititz. Cathy is currently serving as Secretary for the Lititz Springs Park Board of Trustees and Vice President of the Woman’s Club of Lititz. With the 30th Anniversary of the Silent Samaritans approaching in 2026, Cathy looks forward to continuing to support this worthwhile cause and doing her part to embody the mission of women helping women.
