Elaine Potts, LCSW
Licensed Clinical Social WorkerElaine has a passion and commitment to helping those who feel like their expectations for life have taken a drastic turn and they are struggling through the anxiety, fear, disappointment, grief and overwhelm of learning to live a life different than anticipated. Whether it is being given a serious medical diagnosis, dealing with the ending of a relationship or grieving the fact that one you hoped for never started, being told you cannot have your own biological child, facing the daily challenge of caregiving, losing a job, struggling with empty nest or family conflict and facing the loss of loved one through death, Elaine desires to be with you in this place of pain, helping to provide the tools, mental capacity and hope while taking the next right step.
Elaine received her master’s degree in clinical social work from Widener University and has over 27 years of experience working with individuals, couples and families in the outpatient counseling field as well as in hospice and palliative care, older adult communities and with children, teens and young adults facing chronic medical and cognitive challenges. Elaine believes in first hearing a client’s personal story and getting to know the meaning it has for them before seeking to adopt an approach that works best. She will work with her clients on cultivating psychological flexibility, helping them to restructure long held cognitive patterns that are getting in the way of moving forward, and to become increasingly mindful of ways to relax, establish internal balance and compassion, set healthy boundaries and learn how to deal with difficult emotions without the destructive behavior that often flows from them. Elaine has an extensive background in grief counseling, including those who have experienced traumatic loss, and can incorporate trauma informed care into her practice.
If you are worried that your feelings would not be understood or are not significant enough to warrant seeking counseling, Elaine hopes you will take that step to call and set up a first appointment. She would love to hear your story of how life has not gone as you expected, and to start the process of learning how to cope and to seek ways to live the life you are in.
