Support When It’s Needed Most: Understanding the MAP Program

At Samaritan, we believe that strong, healthy leadership is essential to the health of any faith community. That’s why we offer the Ministry Assessment Program (MAP)—a powerful tool designed to help individuals and organizations navigate the unique challenges of ministry with clarity, confidence, and care.

The Ministry Assessment Program (MAP) is a comprehensive tool designed to support ministry leadership across all faith traditions in three key areas. First, it assists association and denominational leaders, as well as ministry committees, in assessing candidates’ suitability for leadership roles. Second, MAP provides evaluations of candidates’ ministry readiness, offering valuable insights to these leaders and committees. Finally, it supports individuals in ministry who are considering potential career transitions.

Administered by our experienced team of psychologists, coordinators, and leadership assessment specialists at Samaritan, the MAP combines validated vocational and psychological assessments with two in-depth interviews to produce a thorough, personalized report. This report serves as a valuable resource for both the individual and the referring organization, offering tailored recommendations to help the individual succeed and thrive in their ministry role.

More Than an Evaluation—A Journey of Discernment

What makes MAP unique is its holistic, person-centered approach. Participants are not just evaluated—they are supported. Whether someone is just beginning their call to ministry, questioning their current direction, or transitioning to a new season of service, MAP meets them with compassion, curiosity, and clinical insight.

Participants frequently tell us that the MAP process has helped them:

  • Clarify their sense of call or vocation

  • Identify personal or relational patterns impacting their leadership

  • Gain confidence in navigating the demands of ministry

  • Discover new possibilities for growth and service

Because ministry is deeply personal and often complex, our assessments are intentionally tailored to account for both psychological wellness and spiritual insight. This dual lens ensures that we are caring for the whole person—not just their professional profile.

A Trusted Partner for Denominations and Churches

Over the years, Samaritan has become a trusted partner to many denominations, associations, and church leaders who rely on MAP for clear, compassionate, and professional recommendations. Our reports are not cookie-cutter checklists; they are individualized reflections based on hours of engagement, evidence-based tools, and years of experience.

Our goal is simple: to empower leaders and communities with the knowledge they need to make informed, faithful decisions.

Walking With Those Who Serve

At its core, MAP is not just a service—it is a ministry in itself. It is our way of walking alongside those who are called to serve others, offering guidance during moments of discernment, transition, or challenge. In doing so, we hope to strengthen the larger faith community by nurturing healthy, self-aware leaders.

Whether you’re a church looking to support a pastoral candidate, a denomination seeking consistency in your discernment process, or a minister wondering what’s next—MAP is here to help.
